When the window opens in summer, Jol must surely have one absolute target, and failure to deliver it would not be an option.  He has to find a long-term replacement for Danny Murphy.

I do not dislike Murphy, but it is clear that he is probably 50% of the player he was just 2 or 3 years ago.

Another 6 points this season, which will hopefully only take a few more games to collect, and Jol has to start experimenting.  Perhaps today's line-up was part of that endeavour.

Anyway, back to the point...We have other weaknesses in the team, but they are ones we could live with.  But finding the long-term successor to DM by the first game of next season at the latest is an absolute must.

If Jol can't uncover a suitable replacement already in the squad, there is no option but to make it the number 1 target to buy in the summer.

You agree?

I think this is totally moot as Dembele will probably be gone this summer.

When I went to the Liverpool game I managed to get corporate tickets and went to the dinner with George Cohen. Cohen said that the club were aware of at least 5 clubs keeping tabs on Dembele and that, if the price was right, he would probably be sold.

Now I am not saying George Cohen is the fountain of all knowledge but he is close to the club and was talking to a room full of corporate hosp types, not fans so was a bit freer to give his opinions without fear of anyone taking offence from his opinions.

That would be hard to take. If we get £20 million then fair enough but we won't because if nothing changes he'll only have a year left on his contract.

We could well lose both Dembele and Demps in the summer , a double dose of disasterous departures.

This of course should mean big bucks in the transfer kitty so Jol should now be thinking of a new full backs, a Murphy replacement and a new striker.

If we lose Dembele and Dempsey we would have different priorities from full backs and a creative mid.

We will need those as well but I think the D&D will be more urgent to replace :D

We've done well to keep our stars over the past few years. Fingers crossed Mo can work his magic.

I think short of an offer for over £15m for Dempsey and about £25m for Dembele I can see us having both next year I want to see us try and sign Clyne and Zaha. Other then that I think we are set with the players we already have but could maybe sign a new centre back for the future and if Barrios happens in the summer fantastic but I can see a strong team about to break through and once we are safe they will be played

During the recent transfer window it was reported that Dempsey is "thought to be valued at £8 to £10m" and Dembele around £12m.

Both seemed low then, and seem low now.

To us even the figures I mentioned are low I certainly wouldn't look twice at any offer under those figures and would be reluctant at those prices

You may be right about Dempsey but I doubt we'd hold out for more than that for Dembele. Jol has said recently that the club are focusing on tieing players down now and I'm just hoping for the best. If I was a man of god I'd pray.

I can't see us getting Barrios or Clyne though, we had our chances but the big boys will get them. Zaha is out of the question, he's overpriced anyway.

You have to remember that these days if a top four club playing in Europe comes in for any of our players then the facts of premiership life means that player will move on , You can list a whole string of them from Saha to Konch. Sometimes we get reasonable money sometimes, as with Van de Sar, we get only a small fee.

Missed the boat three year ago when we should have bought Charlie Adam for peanuts.

If Wolves go down then I'd go for Jamie O'Hara - should be able to get him for about 5 Mil - If they stay up it would cost a bit more but I think he would be the ideal replacement for Danny who I am sorry to say definately needs replaceing in summer. It's time to say thank-you Danny, you have served us superbly but your time is up. Tom Huddlestone is another ideal candidate who would fit into our style of play.......

Barry out of Euros

Seems strange that Jagielka is the replacement. Surely, if Henderson is on standby, a like-for-like swap would make more sense?See More
