What do people think about him? For me he has been infuriatingly inconsistent, and hasn't had a good game since Arsenal. Do you think he should get more time or are we better off without him?

Kerim Frei is definitely better than him. Simon Davies is probably better than him. Ruiz loses the ball to much and doesn't bother challenging players for headers and he always slip and can only chip to score a goal. his finishes are nice but that doesn't excuses his useless work rate and basically we got ripped of £10million and he is one of our worst transfer buys ever I wouldn't even pay £2million for him.

Very inconsistent but when he plays well he's amazing. Only a couple of goals but a few important assists. He'll get better. Overall he's been okay.

Our expectations were raised too high by all the hype. Work in progress - give it time, he'll come good.

I agree that he is inconsitent but I disgree that Frei and Davies are better than Ruiz.  The criticism many have relates to the large sum of money Jol and Fulham had to pay to get him to join the club rather than what does in games.  Having said that, the 10-million transfer fee was given to his former club not Ruiz.  I think Ruiz will get better, and right now he works better with Dempsey than Demble in the attack.  Ruiz just doesn't have the killer instinct in the attacking one third like Dempsey.  He is not alone in that weakness. Just watch Dempsey's postions in the box even when he is not involved in actual shot on goal by his teammate.  Ruiz should study how Dempsey finds space and ready's himself for a shot if by chance the ball comes to him. Not all is bad however.  Ruiz is a better signing for Fulham than Torres and Carrol were for their clubs and he costs a lot less money.

He doesn't get the ball enough in the final 3rd, a similar problem to Dembele except he doesnt have the defensive skill to justify playing so deep. I'd like to see he and Dembele making more runs into the box when the ball is out wide.  He is a little fragile and inconsistent on the ball right now.  If we're still seeing these problems at the end of this season and next season then I would start to get worried.  He hasn't looked sure since the Arsenal game really.

Let the man adjust to the PL first! David Silva was poor in his first year and now hes amazing. I dont think Ruiz will be that good but he will definately be a very good player. Everything is there for him to succeed just needs time to adjust to the leagues physical demands.

I disagree. I think he's been scapegoated wrongly.

he creates chances, no matter how weak he is etc, creating chances is irreplaceable and seems like the type of player to unlock a defence

Good post Gandalf. I think (and f****** hope) he'll come good. He has alot of talent but he needs to produce. My example would be Duff.....he somehow always looks a threat and, being Ruiz has offered very little so far in the atttacking third he has to do at somepoint!,

As Peg said; is he the next David Silva? No..

However, I think the extremes in which he viewed (the ups and downs) will all even out in the end.

I think what he gives us in the short passing game is very important. I think his ability to thread balls through busy areas is better than just about anyone else in the squad.

Personally, I think part of the problem is that he makes everything look ...easy/effortless?.

When it does come off it looks like "it was no big deal, it was easy". When it doesn't come off it looks like "why isn't he trying/fighting". In other words, his style of play can be somewhat deceiving to the eye and this may contribute somewhat to the typical view of his play (very up and down - full of extremes).

What he does do, he does subtly. Works on and off the ball. Constantly getting into open space and looking for others that do as well. Looking to beat someone 1v1 or threading a ball through at the right time...maybe even chip one over the GK if they're sleeping.

No, he isn't going to go sliding in for tackles. No, he isn't going to manhandle defenders. He isn't going to be able to challenge much in the air. These are all very obvious things.

That said, I agree he needs to "fight" more on the pitch. I'm not even convinced he needs to do all that much bulking up, just maybe needs showing a willingness to throw an elbow now and again - even if it gets him a yellow - to keep the opponent honest.

All in all I think he'll be just fine; and so will we.

Lots of people complain about his  £10million  tag price  but think about it ,he could also changed his mind last minute to go to new castle last summer, however choose fulham. He did play beautiful in holand i saw him score and assist quite often and im sure he will do that here, just need time to adapt to a quicker pace and stronger play; when times come he will be a legend in this club , you already can see some hints, he may be slow but his brain is really quick,he is alway thinking ahead . Ruiz is guy that works for the team, humble worker ,he can create opportunities for teammates not being selfish to gain personal glory, he is also working right now to get the trust from teammates, cause i seen times when he gets in position to recive and they just play the ball to a players that are not well set at the moment, so next season should be enogh time for him to gain trust and help more.  I still believe fulham has a great team that is getting better and at future is even more promising, Frei, dembele, ruiz, dempsey, and pogoyak  attaking will be intimidating force in a near future.

I think he should be given more time and maybe come on as a sub when things are going against us but he looks like he needs to root himself and get stronger in challenges, I feel he is a little light weight sometimes.....almost careless. He must learn that he has to remain sharp the whole 90 mins.

Seems strange that Jagielka is the replacement. Surely, if Henderson is on standby, a like-for-like swap would make more sense?See More
